This is the old ROX web-site. Please use the new website instead.

Installing for other x86 compatible systems

The intended way to get the filer is to run this (as a user, not as root):

$ 0alias rox http://rox.sourceforge.net/2005/interfaces/ROX-Filer

If you don't have the 0alias command, get it from httphttp://0install.net/injector.html (it's a Python script).

You'll be presented with a box asking which version you want.

http://rox.sourceforge.net/screens/0launch-rox.png

Click on the Download button and it will download both parts, unpack them, check the signatures and create a rox script in the first directory in PATH. If you don't have a writable directory in PATH, you can add one like this:

$ mkdir ~/bin
$ export PATH=$HOME/bin:$PATH

Then run the filer with:

$ rox

as normal. To check for updates:

$ rox --versions

Manual installation

The individual components are on the httpfiler download page. You also need to download the 'common' files. After extracting both packages, the contents of the binary package must be placed inside the App Dir (common package) in a folder called 'Linux-ix86'.

Note: only Linux-x86 binaries are currently available.

Install the rest of the desktop as for Red Hat.

After installing, you might like to read the Getting Started Guide.

Zero Install also allows downloading the filer automatically, but by clicking on the filer rather than by running 0alias.
